This affordable housing project, in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. redevelopment area, will be built in two phases on land owned by the Diocese of Venice. The project represents an expansion of the community services that the Diocese already provides from this property.
The 214-unit affordable-housing apartment complex will be built in two phases. The complex will be built at 3681 Michigan Avenue on a 17.44-acre site currently owned by the Diocese of Venice, which will develop the project together with National Development of America. Phase I will consist of 136 two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments in two- and three-story buildings, along with a community building. Phase II will contain 78 housing units. Phase I has been approved for a $4.5 million CRA tax increment rebate, with completion planned for December 2022. Phase II has been approved for a $2.6 million CRA tax increment rebate, with a construction start date of September 15, 2024, and completion planned by December 15, 2025.
The groundbreaking ceremony for this project took place on April 11, 2023.
