Renovation of the historic McCollum Hall is cited to be the catalyst project in promoting redevelopment in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. redevelopment area.
This is a restoration project of McCollum Hall, which is a historic building with a musical heritage deeply tied to the famed Chitlin’ Circuit of the 1930s through 1950s. Since its purchase in 2008, the CRA has engaged community groups to clean debris from the structure, stabilized the back wall, and replaced the roof. An exterior restoration was completed in 2016, thanks to a Special Category Grant from the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Historical Resources. McCollum Hall was added to the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places on April 18, 2022. Final restoration by a developer is required to open McCollum Hall as a new community gathering place.
