Attention Pedestrians and Drivers: US 41 Bridge Pedestrian Improvements Project in Fort Myers

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is designing improvements to provide a sidewalk along the west side of US 41, from First Street in Fort Myers to North Key Drive in North Fort Myers. This project aims to enhance pedestrian safety by modifying the existing bridges to accommodate a sidewalk on the west side of the southbound bridge.

Project Details:

  • Goal: Enhance pedestrian safety by adding a new sidewalk.
  • Location: US 41, from First Street in Fort Myers to North Key Drive in North Fort Myers.
  • Project Start: Mid-2023
  • Estimated Completion: early 2026

Traffic Impacts:

  • Expect lane closures during construction, except for the following periods:
    • December 16, 2023, to April 7, 2024
    • December 14, 2024, to April 27, 2025
    • December 13, 2025, to April 12, 2026
  • No lane closures will occur between 7:00 AM and 7:30 PM during the aforementioned periods.
  • FDOT is collaborating with Lee County and the City of Fort Myers to minimize traffic disruptions by optimizing signal timing and providing alternative routes.
